
321 Stainless Tubing
321 stainless steel pipe is an austenitic stainless steel stabilized grade formed by adding titanium (Ti) element to 304 stainless steel. The addition of titanium significantly enhances its resistance to intergranular corrosion within the sensitization temperature range, especially excelling in welding or high-temperature service environments. The core characteristics and design purpose of 321 stainless steel pipe:
1. The stabilizing effect of titanium. Titanium preferentially combines with carbon to form stable titanium carbide (TiC), preventing carbon from combining with chromium to form chromium carbide (Cr₂₃C6), and avoiding the risk of intergranular corrosion caused by chromium depletion during welding or at high temperatures (450-850°C). Compared with 304, 304 relies on ultra-low carbon (304L) for anti-sensitization, while 321 is stabilized with titanium, achieving a balance between strength and corrosion resistance.
2. Enhanced high-temperature performance, oxidation resistance, can be used intermittently at 800-900°C and continuously at ≤700°C (superior to 304), high-temperature strength, titanium enhances grain boundary stability, slows down high-temperature creep, suitable for thermal cycling components.
The 321 stainless steel pipe complies with the standard ASTM A213/A312/A269. The core value of 321 stainless steel pipes lies in:
1. Welding safety - Titanium stabilization solves the problem of intergranular corrosion after welding;
2. High-temperature service stability - Its oxidation resistance below 800°C is superior to that of 304.
It is not suitable for chlorine-containing media, strong reducing acids, and scenarios with high-intensity cold working requirements.
